Telling the Fieldlens Story

Today I’m proud to announce that we’ve pushed up our new official website! We spent the past few months thinking about how to best tell our story and convey what we believe the construction industry needs. While we think the site stands on it’s own, I thought it would be helpful to explain in a bit more detail how we think about construction technology and where we fit in.

Construction software has come a long way over the past few years. We’ve seen some terrific new applications have a real impact on the way we work. But much of what we’ve seen has been simply the digitizing of our existing workflows – taking the same old processes and putting them on a tablet or phone.

New Tricks

Fieldlens user Jerry McClung is the head superintendent on senior living facility project in Tampa. At age 60, he admits to sometimes feeling “left in the dust” when it comes to new technology. But while grasping the digital world can be a challenge for Jerry, he sees the benefit it can provide when utilized properly and was happy to talk to us about his success with Fieldlens.

Before using Fieldlens Jerry was putting together a hand written daily report at the end of each day. After a long day putting out fires, managing contractors, and walking the job site for hours each day, these reports were of necessity abbreviated versions of what actually occurred. It was a long, aggravating process at the end of an exhausting day to regurgitate everything that happened, add pictures, input the head counts and format the report before sharing it with his project team.

Get project notifications your way

You’ve asked for easier to set, more customizable project notifications. You’ve asked for more relevant, easier to read emails with more post details. We’ve been listening. We’ve rebuilt notifications from the ground up to bring you a better way to stay on top of your projects.

What you need to know:

As of this morning, you will start seeing new immediate and daily project update emails along with a new way to control your notification settings.

If you had the opportunity to explore the new options and get your notifications preferences set just the way you like them, you’ll only receive notifications matching those settings from here on out. If you didn’t make any changes, that’s OK too – we’ve applied our recommended settings for now, and you can make changes any time.

Introducing The New Fieldlens

I’m so excited to share with you what we’ve been working on for the last several months at Fieldlens. Our goal has always been to provide an easy to use tool that helps people in the field communicate more effectively, work with less frustration, and get more done.

What we’ve found along the way is that Fieldlens is not just a better way to communicate, it’s a better way to work.

The fact is, a lot of the way our industry gets things done is carried over from the days of carbon copies, fax machines and file cabinets. RFIs, daily reporting, punch list, etc – why do these processes feel the way they did 30 years ago? Sure – you’re using a computer and probably a tablet or smartphone – but is just taking those old processes and replicating them on a phone real progress? We don’t think it is.

FieldLens Construction Drawings and Our eXtreme Announcement

1-Fully_Linked_Sets (2)

Today marks a big day for FieldLens, and I am beyond excited to finally share the news. This morning during the keynote address at the Bluebeam eXtreme Conference in Los Angeles, I announced that FieldLens is launching a new drawings feature that will be interoperable with Bluebeam, the best-in-class drawings solution for the construction industry. This is going to be a game-changer for construction project teams, bringing a superior level of communication to the jobsite.

What does this mean for our users? FieldLens Drawings will work with any industry-standard PDF file, tagging conversations right to your drawings so that you can zoom in to a location and see exactly what’s happening there at any given moment. When FieldLens Drawings becomes available in September, we’ll be introducing a feature called LiveLayer™ – the ability to view drawings overlaid with the realtime conversations happening on the jobsite. Need to see the status of 2nd floor rebar? Zoom into that spot on your drawing, follow the link, and you’ll see all communication about that exact location without ever having to leave the drawing.
